A refresher course for parents who think they’ve forgotten their school day French.
As parents, we often wish we could remember a bit more of what we learnt at school when it comes to helping our children with their homework.
I’m the mother of two grown up children who are now more highly qualified than me, but I still remember their school days, or more precisely, their homework nightmares. Luckily, helping with languages was no problem, but when it came to maths, I remember having to relearn algebra so I could keep one step ahead of my children and help out when they got stuck.
The trick is not to provide the answer for your child, but to teach them the steps they need to work it out for themselves. And the same is true for other subjects, including French.
Back then, it would have been useful if there had been a refresher course for parents who hadn’t studied maths since the age of 16. With this in mind, here at Fleur de Liz, we’re offering a short refresher course for parents who want to be able to support their children when they start to learn French at school.
How does it work?
We’ll start by looking at the curriculum your child will be following. This will depend on which key stage they’re in and what exam board their school works with.
Then we’ll identify which areas of the curriculum you’re confident helping with and which areas you need to refresh so you’ll feel confident enough to support your child.
You know your child better than anyone, so once you’ve renewed your confidence with the language, you’ll be able to find ways to incorporate a bit of French into your daily life in a fun way that engages and motivates them to learn.
Book an initial session to work out a personalised plan, then choose from an intensive morning or afternoon session with your tutor or a regular weekly slot during your lunch break or after work.
Give it a try! There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain. If you start to feel you’re getting out of your depth as your child makes progress, you can always book a top up session or transfer your remaining lessons directly to your child who can continue to benefit from one to one tuition picking up where you left off.
For any questions or to book your first session, call Fleur de Liz on 0113 2179687 or 07486 668622 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
